The Challenge
As an independent Origami Owl designer, Chrissy Weems needed a website that felt like a curated boutique — warm, personal, and visually on-brand — without looking like a generic direct-sales replicated site. The product itself is inherently customizable and giftable, which means the website needed to communicate the full depth of the Living Locket system in a way that made sense to someone discovering the brand for the first time.
Social media was working for engagement, but it created a dependency on platforms she didn't control. Instagram followers could see her posts, but there was no central place to browse the full catalog, understand the customization options across chains, lockets, and charms, or place an order without going through a DM conversation first.
The challenge was building something that felt personal and boutique-level while also being functional as a browsable product catalog — a balance that generic e-commerce templates don't achieve.
The Solution
We designed an elegant, boutique-feeling site with a visual product catalog organized by collection type: Living Lockets, Locket Plates, Charms, and Bracelets. Each category has its own page with curated product photography and clear navigation, making the system intuitive even for first-time Origami Owl visitors.
A 'How It Works' section walks new visitors through the customization process — choosing a locket, selecting plates, adding charms — reducing friction for buyers who don't yet understand how the product works. This educational step significantly increases conversion from browsers who find the site through search or social sharing.
The site was built with Chrissy's personality intentionally woven into the design: warm photography, a brand story page, and a personal 'About Chrissy' section that distinguishes her from corporate Origami Owl retail channels. Social media feeds were integrated so the site stays visually current without requiring manual updates to the product catalog.

Selling Customizable Products Online Requires an Education Layer
When a product requires choices — locket size, plate design, charm selection — a website that only shows the finished product misses the conversion opportunity. Visitors who don't understand how to build their own version leave without purchasing. The 'How It Works' section on Chrissy's site exists specifically to bridge that gap: it walks a first-time visitor through the selection process before they ever see a product page, so by the time they're browsing lockets, they already understand what they're building. This education layer is the most important conversion element on any customizable product site, and it's the first thing most independent direct-sales sites omit.
“CalTech Web gave my jewelry business a real online home. The site looks beautiful and my customers love being able to browse collections easily. It was exactly what I needed at a price I could afford.”
